About Me

Since the founding of civilization, liberty and tyranny have been locked in a bitter duel. This blog discusses current events, history, politics, and philosophy related to this conflict. The opinions expressed here are the views of one man. I encourage respectful debate in the comments.

“À la lanterne!” (“to the lamppost!”) was a slogan during the French Revolution. The mobs of Paris would yell it as they dragged aristocrats to the Place de Grève lamppost, to hang. Camille Demouslins, instrumental in the storming of the Bastille, published a journal Discours de la lanterne aux Parisiens (The Lamppost Speaks to Parisians) in defense of the mob’s actions. This blog does not celebrate violence, but is named in tribute to the passionate desire for liberty which filled the hearts of revolutionary France. You can call me Camille.
